⁍ The Republican leadership of the U.S. Senate has introduced its proposal for the next coronavirus relief package.

⁍ It compares with the Heroes Act that passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives in May.

– Senate Republicans have unveiled a $1 trillion plan to address the economic crisis, including a cut in unemployment benefits and a program that would give small businesses a tax break for hiring out-of-work Americans, the Washington Post reports. The “Heals Act” would extend unemployment benefits for two more months, cut the maximum weekly benefit from $600 to $200, and give small businesses a tax break for hiring out-of-work Americans who have been out of work for six months or more. It would also help state and local governments pay for first responders and teachers, Reuters reports. The plan, which needs to be passed by the Senate before it can become law, is similar to a bill that passed the House of Representatives in May, the Wall Street Journal reports. It would extend unemployment benefits for two more months, cut the maximum weekly benefit from $600 to $200, and give small businesses a tax break for hiring out-of-work Americans who have been out of work for six months or more.
