– A man set himself on fire outside a police station in Belarus today, the interior ministry said, though it’s not clear if that was linked to the unrest there. The man had a history of mental illness, the ministry said. The incident comes as opposition leader Maxim Znak began a hunger strike in jail, Reuters reports. More than 10,000 people have been arrested in the country since protests broke out following President Alexander Lukashenko’s re-election last month. The European Union is preparing a sanctions resolution against Lukashenko and Russia is conducting joint military exercises with Belarus, the New York Times reports.
