– The UN’s Human Rights Council has voted to launch a full-scale monitoring of human rights abuses in Belarus, despite Russia’s efforts to water them down, Reuters reports. The 47-member council rejected 17 amendments submitted by Russia, which does not have a vote as an observer. The resolution gives the office of UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet a mandate to “closely monitor the situation in Belarus and submit an oral report with recommendations by year-end,” according to the council president.
