⁍ Video-sharing app TikTok said on Saturday it has already committed to the U.S. government oversight of data security in the country.

⁍ The ban on new U.S. downloads of the app, owned by China’s ByteDance, could still be rescinded by President Donald Trump before it takes effect.

– The Trump administration’s ban on the popular Chinese video-sharing app TikTok goes into effect at midnight Sunday. The Commerce Department says the app poses a threat to national security because it collects user data from US consumers. TikTok is owned by China’s ByteDance, and the Trump administration has accused the company of violating US sanctions against China. TikTok says in a statement that it is “disappointed” by the ban and has already agreed to measures including “third-party audits, verification of code security, and the US government oversight of US data security,” Reuters reports. The company says it will continue to fight the ban.
