⁍ Australia’s coronavirus hotspot of Victoria reported on Monday a steady downward trend in daily coronavirus cases.

⁍ The two-week average rise in cases in Melbourne, the state capital, dropped below 35 on Monday.

⁍ The strict restrictions on movement have brought the daily coronavirus cases in the state down to double digits after it touched highs of 700 in early August.

⁍ Australia has so far recorded a total of just over 26,900 novel coronavirus infections and 851 deaths.

– Australia’s “co coronavirus,” which has killed 851 people so far this year, appears to be slowing down. The number of cases in Victoria state, where Melbourne is located, has dropped below 35 for the first time in two weeks, putting the state on track to meet its target of below 50 cases by the end of the week, Reuters reports. Authorities, who have extended a lockdown in the state’s second-largest city until the end of the month, have eased restrictions on movement, allowing residents to leave their homes for longer periods for exercise and shorter curfews. “It’s welcome news for Victorians and welcome news for Australians,'” a medical official said yesterday, but he warned that “the complacency has to be avoided” when restrictions are eased. “When Victorians come out of restrictions, particularly in Melbourne, the complacency has to be avoided,” he said. Australia has so far recorded 26,900 novel coronavirus infections and 851 deaths, with Victoria accounting for the bulk of both.
