– Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death has turned out to be a boon for Democrats in the form of record-breaking fundraising. In the 28 hours after the Supreme Court justice’s death was announced Friday, grassroots donors gave $91.4 million to Democratic candidates and causes, breaking all-time records for dollars raised in one day and one hour, Reuters reports. That figure comes from 1.5 million donations from supporters, many of them new to the Democratic Party. On Saturday alone, donors gave $70.6 million, and $6.3 million in one hour on Friday night, says Erin Hill, the executive director of nonprofit ActBlue, which helps raise money for Democratic candidates. Much of the Democratic money will be poured into key Senate races, as the party seeks to retake control of the chamber in November, and also to pressure vulnerable Republican incumbents into opposing a move by President Trump to install a new justice before the election.
