⁍ The United States on Monday will sanction more than two dozen people and entities involved in Iran’s nuclear, missile and conventional arms programs.

⁍ The new sanctions fit into U.S. President Donald Trump’s effort to limit Iran’s regional influence.

⁍ The new sanctions also put European allies, China and Russia on notice that while their inclination may be to ignore the U.S. drive to maintain U.N. sanctions on Iran, companies based in their nations would feel the bite for violating them.

– The United States is preparing to reimpose sanctions on Iran that were lifted as part of a 2015 deal over the country’s nuclear program, the New York Times reports. According to Reuters, a senior US official says more than two dozen people and entities involved in Iran’s nuclear, missile, and conventional arms programs will be sanctioned by the US on Monday. The official says Iran could have enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon by the end of the year. The official says Iran has resumed cooperation with North Korea on a long-range missile project and is doing “everything it can to keep in existence a virtual capability to get back into this provocative weaponization business at a moment’s notice should it choose to do so.” The official says the new sanctions will allow the US to re-impose sanctions on Iran that were lifted as part of the 2015 deal. The official says the new sanctions will allow the US to re-impose sanctions on companies and organizations that sell arms to Iran. The official says President Trump will issue an executive order allowing the US to punish those who buy or sell arms to Iran. Iran’s mission to the UN says the new sanctions will only make the US more isolated.
