⁍ The recent high for the Emmys, the highest honors in television, hit 17.7 million viewers in 2013.

– Last night’s Emmy Awards were the least-watched awards show in history, with a record low 6.1 million people watching on ABC, reports Reuters. That’s down from the 6.9 million who watched last year’s awards show on Fox. Last night’s telecast—which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and presented from Los Angeles’ Staples Center—also faced competition from the NFL’s Sunday Night Football game and the National Basketball Association’s playoff game. Despite the low ratings, the awards show received mostly positive reviews from critics. “Instead of enlivening the proceedings,’ Mike Hale of the New York Times wrote, “the mix of pretaped bits, remote acceptances and solo appearances by guests on the Staples sets made you nostalgic for the hothouse atmosphere and occasional breakdowns of the traditional awards-show format.”
