– The death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is spooking investors. At one point, the Dow was down as much as 900 points in the wake of the Supreme Court justice’s death, which could lead to a 4-4 tie when the court hears a challenge to the Affordable Care Act in November, Reuters reports. “It just kind of crowds out the agenda, the idea that we are going to get a fiscal stimulus package before the election,” says one portfolio manager. “There is just general election-officially jitters and possibly that we have a contested or delayed outcome.” On Friday, the Dow fell 284 points, while the Nasdaq and S&P fell 71 and 32 points, respectively, according to the Wall Street Journal.
