– As Britain grapples with its second wave of coronavirus, which has now killed 41,788 people in Europe, Prime Minister Boris Johnson today told people to stay at home and ordered bars and restaurants to close at 10pm tomorrow, Reuters reports. “I am sorry this will hurt many businesses just getting back on their feet,” he said. “We are taking decisive and appropriate steps to balance saving lives and protecting jobs and livelihoods. We will not listen to those who say let the virus rip, nor to those who urge a permanent lockdown.” Among the measures he said would be put in place: tougher enforcement of rules requiring face masks, tougher fines for businesses that don’t comply, and the military being brought in to help free up the police. “We will only be able to avoid it if our new measures work and our behavior changes,” Johnson said. “We reserve the right to deploy greater firepower, with significantly greater restrictions,” he added. “We will only be able to avoid it if our new measures work and our behavior changes.”
