– For the second time this year, Israel has instituted a nationwide lockdown to combat the H1N1 virus, which has killed more than 1,000 people in the country and sickened more than 5,000, Reuters reports. Under the new rules, which go into effect today and last for three weeks, Israelis are required to stay at least 1,000 yards away from their homes; they can’t attend synagogues or other large gatherings; and they can’t travel beyond that distance to work, the AP reports.
