⁍ The prizes, due to be announced next month, will instead be handed out during a televised ceremony in December.
⁍ The Nobel Foundation had already cancelled the glittering banquet which marks the end of the annual festivities in December.
– This year’s Nobel winners won’t get their awards in person in December—because of the H1N1 virus. Instead, they’ll receive their prizes in person at Swedish embassies or organizations in their own countries, Reuters reports. “We had decided already in spring that we would not have a traditional prize ceremony,” says the chairman of the Nobel Foundation. “But we wanted to wait over summer to see what would happen before we communicated that.” The awards—for achievements in science, literature, and peace—have been handed out since 1901.
