⁍ From Sao Paulo to Sweden, thousands have posted clips of themselves dancing to ‘Jerusalema’
The up-tempo gospel groove has provided a moment’s relief across borders and language barriers.

⁍ Yet 150 million YouTube views later, the song’s producer is still not sure why.

– “It’s no longer my song, it’s a song for the world. It’s healing them and I’m blessed and honored by that.” So says Master KG, the South African producer whose house song “Jerusalema” has become a viral hit, inspiring dancers from around the world to take the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge, reports Reuters. “Early this year, around January, I thought the song had reached its peak,” says Master KG, whose real name is Kgaogelo Moagi. “And then out of nowhere the song came back.” It all started in Angola, where a group of friends posted a video of themselves dancing to the song, and it quickly spread to Europe, the US, and South America. “(Now the song is) number one on Shazam. Being posted by Cristiano Ronaldo,” Moagi says. “Being posted by Janet Jackson. Just a lot of amazing things. Things I’ve been dreaming of.” But Moagi, who says he’s in “disbelief” about the song’s success, isn’t sure why so many people around the world are dancing to his song. “It’s no longer my song, it’s a song for the world,” he says. “It’s healing them and I’m blessed and honored by that.”
