– The first big week of Brexit talks is under way in Brussels, and both the European Union and the British government say there’s still a lot of work to be done on the terms of the UK’s departure from the bloc, the AP reports. British Prime Minister Theresa May is due to meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and other EU leaders on Tuesday. On Monday, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, said “no deal is better than a bad deal” when it comes to the negotiations leading up to Britain’s departure from the EU on March 29, the BBC reports. May is expected to argue that Britain can’t exit the EU’s single market and customs union without being bound by it. The main sticking point revolves around the so-called “divorce bill,” which has to be figured out before the rest of the divorce can be finalized. On Monday, Barnier said that “no deal is better than a bad deal” and that there is still “some way off” on that front.
