– Chile’s children’s ombudsman says it will file a complaint of “attempted homicide” against police after a video went viral showing a teen falling from a bridge into a shallow river during a protest in the country’s capital, Reuters reports. The 14-year-old was taken to a non-risk care center, and the country’s prosecutor’s office says it will investigate the incident, which occurred during clashes between protesters and police in Santiago on the first anniversary of last year’s “Occupy Chile” demonstrations, which left 31 dead and thousands injured. Protesters say the boy was being held by police when he fell into the river, while police deny that they held him by his feet or that he was propelled into the river by a police water cannon “as witnesses on social media have invented,” the BBC reports. “This unfortunate accident occurred in an intense context of arresting people who caused disorder,” a police spokesman says. “The government rejects and condemns all types of violence, whatever its origin or motivation.”
