– Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge won the London Marathon for the fifth time in a row on Sunday, but he failed to break the two-hour mark for the first time in his career. The 35-year-old Kipchoge, who has been the world’s best marathon runner for the past four years, finished eighth in a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 41 seconds, the BBC reports. “It’s not the end of the world that I can’t win—that’s sport,” Kipchoge said after the race. “If you’re beaten, you don’t go to a tree and hang yourself.” Kipchoge, who has a world record of 2 hours, 2 minutes, 39 seconds, was the favorite to win this year’s race, but he was unable to break the two-hour barrier for the first time in more than a decade, Reuters reports. Shura Kitata of Ethiopia won the race in 2 hours, 05.41 minutes.
