⁍ Cineworld, the world’s second-biggest cinema chain said it would close its UK and U.S. cinemas this week.

⁍ The company has 55 cinemas in Europe, plus 45 in Canada and 10 in the United States.

⁍ Kinepolis’ chief executive predicted in August that the rise of online streaming for films during the pandemic would only be a temporary setback to the cinema industry.

– The H1N1 virus that forced the closure of hundreds of cinemas earlier this year may have been a blessing in disguise, at least according to one chain. Cineworld, the second-biggest cinema chain in the world, says it’s not planning to close any of its US and UK cinemas again, Reuters reports. “We are not considering to close our cinemas again,” a company spokeswoman says. “People are willing to come back.” The chain says it has seen a rise in visitor numbers since the H1N1 outbreak, and all its theaters, which were closed during the peak of the virus in April and May, will be open this week.
