⁍ Poland has seen another record daily spike in new coronavirus cases.
⁍ Daily coronavirus cases jumped more than 40% on Thursday compared to the previous day.
⁍ Poland does not rule out introducing a state of emergency if cases continue to grow.
– Poland is introducing mandatory masks for all citizens as the country deals with an outbreak of the respiratory illness known as coronavirus, which has killed at least 2,867 people in the country and sickened more than 111,000, Reuters reports. “We have to slow the growth of this in the entire country … we are today a few steps away from a lack of beds and respirators,” says Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “We can’t waste the good progress we’ve made in the last seven months.” Morawiecki says that if the outbreak continues to grow, Poland could consider declaring a state of emergency and imposing restrictions on schools, the AP reports. Poland is far from the only country affected by the illness. The Czech Republic and Slovakia have also seen record numbers of cases. “This is really tough, I must admit, I keep uncovering my nose otherwise I start suffocating,” an 86-year-old woman living in Warsaw tells Reuters. “Because of my age, we suffer, but if it is necessary we have to comply even though it restricts everything. I would even say it is some sort of enslavement, following all the rules. It certainly isn’t fun.”
