⁍ U.S. President Donald Trump revealed early on Oct. 2 that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

⁍ Several questions about the course of his illness remain unknown.

⁍ White House has declined to say when the president last tested negative for the coronavirus.

– President Trump’s doctor says the president is recovering from the illness that landed him at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday, the Washington Post reports. Dr. Harold Bornstein, the president’s physician at Walter Reed, says Trump is now resting comfortably and his immune system is responding well to treatment for the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. “He is in good spirits and his recovery is progressing,” Bornstein says in a statement. “The president will continue to receive treatment when he is healthy enough to do so.” Bornstein says Trump was hospitalized for a respiratory illness on Oct. 2 and treated with a drug called Gilead Sciences’ GILD.O antiviral remdesivir, which can be given early in the illness to prevent death. He also received an experimental treatment called dual antibody therapy from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals that is so new it doesn’t have an official name, physicians tell Reuters. Trump was hospitalized Oct. 2 to the following Monday and had two known instances of low oxygen levels, a sign of more serious illness. He received many of the medicines that have shown some efficacy against COVID-19 in clinical trials, painting a confusing picture of how severely ill he may have been. The CDC recommends people avoid contact with others for 10 days after the onset of symptoms, which means Trump should assume he is contagious through Saturday, Oct. 10, if he was first symptomatic on Oct. 1.
