⁍ There is ‘plenty of room’ in most intensive care units despite rising COVID-19 infections globally, Roche CEO Severin Schwan said.

⁍ Even so, Roche predicts the virus is endemic, meaning that society will grapple with COVID-19 for years and years to come.

– Pandemic No. 2 isn’t expected to run as smoothly as the first. “From all the conversations I have with our customers, it’s very difficult to imagine that we run into a lockdown of the health care system,” said Severin Schwan, chief executive of drugmaker Roche, in a call with analysts, according to Reuters. “There is plenty of room” in intensive care units, he said. “Hospitals are not even close to the limits at this stage.” He added that the H1N1 strain is “a lot worse” than the No. 2 strain, though it’s still spreading. “This virus is not going to go away anymore,” he said.
