– “We know that this is going to get worse before it gets better.” That from Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, whose state saw a record 3,747 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, reports Reuters. Wisconsin is one of nine states with record-high one-day increases in new cases and hospitalizations related to the virus, which has killed more than 217,000 people worldwide and is spreading rapidly across the US. North Dakota and South Dakota have seen more new cases per capita than all but one country, Andorra, and are three times as many new cases per capita as Spain, the UK, or France. “We really got to double down on the fundamental public health measures that we talk about every single day because they can make a difference,” says Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top US infectious diseases expert. “The way of the world going forward is going to be that the virus will constantly flare up in certain locations,” says Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, which has seen an increase in cases in several “clusters.” A nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City tells Reuters there are at least a dozen patients in critical care there, most of them Orthodox Jews. Catholic and Jewish groups are suing New York over restrictions placed on religious gatherings.
