⁍ Canadian Public Safety Minister Bill Blair described the fire that destroyed a lobster facility in southwest Nova Scotia as ‘suspicious’
He added that he has authorized more Royal Canadian Mounted Police to keep peace in the region where fishery tensions have escalated.

⁍ Earlier in the day, the fire led to a man being admitted in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

– A fire at a lobster processing facility in Nova Scotia has left one man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and authorities are calling the blaze “suspicious.” The fire at the Cape Breton facility is just the latest in a long-running feud between lobstermen from the Cape Breton area and fishermen from Newfoundland and Labrador, Reuters reports. Tensions have soared in recent years as the lobster population in the area has dropped, fire officials say. “I am deeply concerned about the suspicious fire and confident that investigators will find the answers they need to hold those responsible to account,” Canadian Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said in a statement. “I have now approved a request from Nova Scotia’s Attorney General to enhance the presence of contracted RCMP resources as needed in that jurisdiction in order to keep the peace.”
