⁍ Jacinda Ardern will take her time to decide whether she will go alone or include coalition partners in her next government.

⁍ Ardern delivered the biggest election victory for her centre-left Labour Party in half a century.

⁍ It is the first time any party has had enough support to be a single-party government since New Zealand adopted a proportional voting system in 1996.

– Jacinda Ardern is New Zealand’s new prime minister after a massive victory in Saturday’s election. The 40-year-old leader of the center-left Labour Party is only the second woman to be elected prime minister of New Zealand and the first since 1970 to win a majority of the country’s 120 seats in the House of Representatives, reports the BBC. She is expected to form a coalition with the Green Party and the nationalist New Zealand First Party, but she says she will consider the results before making a final decision, Reuters reports. “The results demonstrate that we do have a clear mandate to lead,” Ardern said. “On the question of (government) arrangements … that’s something I want to take a little bit of time to consider and take stock of the results.”
