– The Nigerian army says it’s ready to restore law and order in the country after weeks of protests—but the exercise it’s conducting has nothing to do with the protests, Reuters reports. The army says Operation Crocodile Smile, which will run from Oct. 20 to Dec. 31, has “no relationship with any lawful protest under any guise whatsoever,” according to the AFP. Protesters say they’ve been robbed and beaten by special anti-robbery squads, and the army says it’s ready to crack down on “subversive elements and trouble makers.” The army says the exercise will include cyber warfare training, but Anonymous—which has been hacking government websites—says it will continue to do so in support of the protesters, the Guardian reports. “The army hereby enjoins all law abiding Nigerians to go about their lawful activities unhindered as the exercise has nothing to do with ENDSARS protest, but a yearly event set out by the (army) in its efforts to ensuring safety and security of Nigeria and her citizens,” the army says in a statement.
