– Republican Sen. David Perdue appeared to mock Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris at a rally for President Trump in Georgia on Friday, repeatedly mispronouncing her name, Reuters reports. “I don’t know, whatever,” the Georgia senator said before saying, “I don’t know, whatever.” The crowd responds with laughter. Harris, California’s first black senator from a major party, has said her name should be pronounced “la-la.” “Well that is incredibly racist,” Harris spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said on Twitter. “He knows her name. There are only 100 of us.” Perdue’s campaign said the senator “simply mispronounced Senator Harris’ name, and he didn’t mean anything by it.” Perdue is in a tight race with Democrat Jon Ossoff. “I can assure you that David Perdue has no affiliation with the Perdue brand,” the company said on Twitter. Perdue Foods, one of America’s largest chicken producers, distanced itself from the senator. “I can assure you that David Perdue has no affiliation with the Perdue brand,” the company said.
