– For the first time in the history of e-sports, two US teams are in the same group at a major tournament. The Electronic Sports League says Team Liquid and mudgolems secured playoff spots at the ESL One Germany with 2-0 sweeps on Sunday, the AP reports. Team Liquid beat 5men and Natus Vincere while mudgolems beat Ninjas in Pyjamas and Team Nigma. The move means the US teams are in the same group as the UK’s Team Secret, which is 3-0, and the Netherlands’ Team Secret, which is 3-0. The top eight teams at the $400,000-plus event will advance to the playoffs, which begin Tuesday with best-of-three rounds. The Los Angeles Times reports that this is the first time in the history of e-sports that two US teams are in the same group at a major tournament. The last time was in 2013, when the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles were in the same group at the College World Series.
