– President Trump’s daughter-in-law says her father wasn’t encouraging anyone to threaten Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer when he said she should be locked up after the foiled kidnapping plot against her. “He wasn’t doing anything, I don’t think, to provoke people to threaten this woman at all. He was having fun at a Trump rally,” Lara Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Meet the Press, per the Hill. “Look, the President was at a rally. It’s a fun, light atmosphere. Of course, he wasn’t encouraging people to threaten this woman. That’s ridiculous. It’s dangerous, not just for me and my family, but for public servants everywhere who are doing their jobs and trying to protect fellow Americans.” Whitmer, a Democrat, had criticized Trump for refusing to denounce white supremacist groups after the plot was uncovered. “It’s incredibly disturbing that the president of the United States, 10 days after a plot to kidnap, put me on trial and execute me, 10 days after that was uncovered, the president is at it again and inspiring and incentivizing and inciting this kind of domestic terrorism,” she said on NBC’s Meet the Press, per the Detroit Free Press. “He wasn’t doing anything, I don’t think, to provoke people to threaten this woman at all. He was having fun.”
