⁍ Australian shares rose on Wednesday with banking and mining stocks leading the charge.

⁍ Hopes that U.S. lawmakers could clinch a much-sought-after fiscal stimulus package supported global equity markets.

– World stocks were mostly higher in early trading today, helped by hopes that US lawmakers would wrap up a fiscal stimulus package this week, reports MarketWatch. At 10:29am EDT, the Dow was up 76 points, or 0.7%, while the Nasdaq and S&P were up 12 and 6 points, respectively. Nancy Pelosi said she hoped to have a deal by the end of the week. “We’re going to get something done this week,” she said. “It’s not a done deal, but we’re going to get something done.”
