– For the first time in its history, the world’s top e-sports teams will be competing for a total of $1 million in prize money at the same time. The Los Angeles Times reports the Electronic Sports League, aka Dota 2, began its $400,000 tournament in Switzerland last month. Sixteen teams from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States will compete through Nov. 1, with the winner taking home $150,000. Teams needed three victories to secure a spot in the eight-team playoffs, while three losses equaled elimination. Teams never play the same opponent twice. The playoff rounds will be contested in a best-of-three, double-elimination format. The grand final is a best-of-five encounter.
