⁍ Elmer Manzano, 51, fired at officers responding to a disturbance call at an apartment in southwest Houston, wounding Officer Courtney Waller and killing Sergeant Harold Preston.


⁍ Manzano’s 14-year old son was also shot during the gunfire but is expected to recover.


⁍ The officers were dispatched to the apartment to help a woman who said she was trying to move out but that her estranged husband – Manzano – would not allow her to collect her things.


– A Houston police officer died Tuesday after being shot multiple times while responding to a domestic disturbance call, the Houston Chronicle reports. According to Reuters, Sgt. Harold Preston, 65, was responding to a call from a woman who said her estranged husband wouldn’t let her collect her things. Police Chief Art Acevedo says the woman’s 14-year-old son was outside the apartment with the boy when his father, 51-year-old Elmer Manzano, opened fire on the officers. Acevedo says Manzano’s 14-year-old son was also shot but is expected to survive. Manzano surrendered about an hour later.
