Brazil has the second deadliest outbreak of the coronavirus, after the United States, with more than 154,000 killed.

– A 28-year-old man in Brazil has died while participating in a clinical trial for an experimental vaccine designed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, CNN reports. According to Reuters, the man was part of a control group that received a meningitis jab while participating in a clinical trial for the COVID-19 vaccine. A source familiar with the matter tells Reuters the trial would have been suspended if the man had received the vaccine. The Federal University of Sao Paulo, which is helping coordinate phase 3 clinical trials in Brazil, says “everything is proceeding as expected, without any record of serious vaccine-related complications involving any of the participating volunteers.” Anvisa, Brazil’s health authority, says the volunteer died of complications from the vaccine. The trial will continue.
