⁍ Europe reported 200,000 daily coronavirus cases for the first time on Thursday.
⁍ Many Southern European countries reported their highest single-day cases this week.
⁍ Europe has so far reported about 7.8 million total coronavirus cases and about 247,000 deaths.
– For the first time ever, more than 200,000 cases of coronavirus—a respiratory illness related to the common cold—were reported in Europe on a single day this week, according to a Reuters tally. Italy, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia all reported more than 100,000 cases on Thursday, while the Netherlands had more than 9,000 cases in 24 hours, a new record. Europe is now reporting more cases than India, Brazil, and the US combined, Reuters notes. The increase in cases is partly due to more testing for coronavirus than was done in the first wave of the pandemic.
