⁍ The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill must face claims by environmental groups.
⁍ The groups allege the school exceedingly pollutes ambient air with its on-campus, coal-fired power plant.
– A federal judge has ruled in favor of environmental groups who say the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s on-campus coal-fired power plant pollutes the air near student dormitories, reports Westlaw Today. The Center for Biological Diversity and the Sierra Club say the plant burns more coal than permitted, and the judge ruled that the university must face their claims in court. The plant is located less than a mile from student dormitories, and the groups say it releases nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide, and other pollutants into the air, reports the News & Observer.
