– The flu season isn’t over yet: The number of confirmed, probable, and confirmed cases of influenza-like illness in Europe hit 1 million for the first time this week, Reuters reports. That’s up from a little more than 100,000 cases at this point last year, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. “The impact in terms of pressure on healthcare services and mortality has become increasingly evident,” says the center’s director. “Strong public health action is necessary to revert an imminent risk of healthcare systems being overwhelmed.”
