– The number of cases of coronavirus, a respiratory illness related to the common cold, in the US has jumped to more than 900,000, according to the CDC. The number of cases in the US has soared to four states—New York, California, Texas, and Florida—with New York now reporting more than half a million cases, making it the fourth state to surpass the half-million mark, Reuters reports. The number of cases in the US has jumped 80% in the past four weeks, with more than 2,000 new cases daily in New York, not far from the state’s record of 12,847 cases on April 10, when refrigerated trucks stored bodies outside hospitals and a hospital ship sailed past the Statue of Liberty.
