⁍ The 2020 U.S. presidential election was always expected to be a dramatic and eventful ride.

⁍ Nobody predicted a global pandemic that would upend every facet of the campaign.

⁍ Here are 10 pivotal moments from a dizzying election year.

– It’s that time of year again: time to look back at the biggest moments of President Trump’s first year in office and predict what’s to come in 2020. Here are some of the bigger ones, rounded up by the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, and the Washington Post: Trump’s inaugural address: The big moment came on Feb. 5, when Trump took the stage at the White House for the first time as president. He spoke of a “new chapter in American history” and promised a “humble and humble” inaugural. It was, as the Post puts it, a “stunning moment.” Joe Biden’s run: The former vice president won the South Carolina primary, ending the race for the Democratic nomination in a matter of weeks. Trump’s “covfefe” tweet: The president’s final tweet of the year came on Sept. 23, when he announced that the US would no longer be the “police state” of the world and would instead be a “nation of law and order.” Amy Ginsburg’s death: The late Supreme Court justice’s death less than two months before the Nov. 3 election was widely seen as one of the most significant moments of the year. Trump’s pick of Judge Amy Barrett: The president’s pick of Barrett to fill the seat of the late Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia was widely seen as the most significant move of the year. It gave conservatives a reason to cheer in what had been a challenging year for the president. Bernie Sanders’ endorsement: In April 8, Sanders dropped out of the race for the 2020 election to end his campaign. He endorsed his campaign, which was a major setback for the party.
