– The US is backing a new ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the separatist enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, Reuters reports. “Congratulations to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who just agreed to adhere to a cease fire effective at midnight,” President Trump tweeted Sunday. “Many lives will be saved.” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Friday with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington in an attempt to bring an end to fighting that has raged since Sept. 27. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group—Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, and the US—will meet again in Geneva on Oct. 29.
