– France has recalled its ambassador to Turkey after Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s attack on French President Emmanuel Macron’s mental health. Erdogan said Saturday that Macron “needs treatment on a mental level” after the French leader denounced the beheading of a French teacher who had shown his students cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, Reuters reports. “I am calling to all my citizens from here to never help French brands or buy them,” Erdogan said Monday. France’s foreign ministry said it was “saddened” by Erdogan’s remarks, which “do not help the positive agenda that the EU wants to pursue with Turkey,” the AP reports. France’s prime minister called Erdogan’s remarks “unacceptable” and “personal invective does not help the positive agenda that the EU wants to pursue with Turkey.”
