– Pandemic No. 19 has hit a new peak in Belgium, with 18,000 new infections last week—a 10-fold increase over the previous week. Hospitals are running out of beds, officials say, and the federal government will decide by this weekend whether to return to a nationwide lockdown, Reuters reports. “We must prepare everything for a lockdown if there is no improvement by the end of this week,” says a health ministry spokesman. “We could still get by without a lockdown, but only if the rate of hospital admissions was brought under control.”
