– The number of people who have died from Legionnaires’ disease in the US so far this year is more than double what was reported at this time last year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The disease is spread by contaminated drinking water and is especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems. So far this year, 2,405 people have died from the disease, compared to 861 people at this time last year, the CDC says.
