⁍ Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kelly’s lead over Arizona Republican incumbent Martha McSally is holding steady.
⁍ There are about 12 competitive U.S. Senate races up for grabs in next Tuesday’s election.
⁍ To have a majority in the Senate, Democrats need to pick up three seats.
– With less than a week to go until the midterms, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Democrat Mark Kelly with a 51% to 44% lead over Republican Martha McSally in Arizona’s Senate race. That’s within the poll’s margin of error, but it’s still good news for McSally, who’s trying to become the first woman elected to the Senate from Arizona. The poll was taken Oct. 21-27, the same day McSally announced she wouldn’t be running for re-election. McSally is a two-term congresswoman who was appointed to the seat in 2016 by then-Gov. Jan Brewer. Kelly is a former astronaut and Navy SEAL who’s trying to become the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Arizona since John McCain in 2006. Democrats need to pick up three seats to take control of the Senate, and if they do that, Vice President Pence would be the tiebreaker.
