⁍ New Orleans halted city and transit services and advised residents living outside the state’s protective levee system to leave for higher ground.

⁍ Coastal and low-lying communities along the state’s Gulf Coast called for mandatory evacuations.

– Louisiana has declared a state of emergency and residents along the Gulf Coast have been told to get out of the path of Hurricane Zeta, which is expected to make landfall in the state Wednesday afternoon, the AP reports. The National Hurricane Center says Zeta, which is expected to be a “life-threatening” storm surge, is moving north and is expected to be a Category 1 hurricane when it makes landfall. Forecasters say it will be the fifth named storm to hit Louisiana this year. Oil and gas production along the Gulf Coast has been shut down and more than 200 offshore production facilities have been evacuated, Reuters reports.
