– “You’d think Christmas had come early.” That’s what a hairdresser in Cambrai, France, tells Reuters after her salon was forced to close at 9pm Thursday due to a new lockdown aimed at stopping the spread of corona virus. Starting Oct. 30, bars, restaurants, and other businesses open to the public—including hair salons—will have to close, as will schools, President Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday, per the BBC. Most schools will remain open. “It will be difficult for us,” says the hairdresser in Cambrai. “The Christmas season is very important for our earnings. We feel like we’re paying, like we’re being punished for the errors of others.”
