– Spain’s government has declared a state of emergency after the country’s first known death from a new strain of coronavirus, which has sickened more than 100 people, Reuters reports. The state of emergency, which will be in place for six months, was declared after a person infected with the virus died in a Madrid hospital on Saturday. The World Health Organization has warned that the outbreak is a “public health emergency of international concern,” and the US has also declared a state of emergency.
