⁍ Mitch McConnell said any new coronavirus aid package should be considered in early 2021, possibly closing the door to such legislation shortly following the Nov. 3 elections.
⁍ McConnell has resisted considering a comprehensive aid package being sought by Democrats.
⁍ He added, ‘We probably need to do another package,’ but said it would have to be ‘more modest’ than the $3-trillion measure the House of Representatives passed in mid-May.
– In the wake of the Ebola outbreak, Mitch McConnell has been a vocal critic of the federal government’s response. Now, the Senate majority leader says he’s open to considering a new aid package to fight the virus, which has now infected hundreds of people, Reuters reports. “I think that will be something we’ll need to do right at the beginning of the year, targeted particularly at small businesses that are struggling and hospitals that are now dealing with a second wave of the coronavirus,” McConnell told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “We probably need to do another package,” he said, “but we probably need to do it more modest than the $3-trillion measure the House of Representatives passed in mid-May.” He added that any new aid package should be considered in early 2021, possibly closing the door to such legislation shortly after the Nov. 3 elections.
