– Patrick Cantlay held off a late charge from Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas to win the Zozo Championship in Thousand Oaks, Calif., by a single shot on Sunday. Cantlay, who started the day three back of overnight leader Thomas, carded a final round seven-under-par 65 to collect his third career PGA Tour title with a winning total of 23-under 265. The 28-year-old’s round included a career-high nine birdies, four of those coming over a five-hole stretch from the 11th, reports Reuters. “Obviously I started today a few back, but I knew I had to go out and make a bunch of birdies,” said Cantlay. “And today was actually the only day I made a bogey, but offset it with enough birdies. “I put in a lot of work and try to do the right things all the time, so when it all does come together, it’s really rewarding because it’s all that hard work paying off.” Rahm, who tied for second, finished with a four-under 68. Tiger Woods, chasing a record 83rd PGA Tour win and back in action for the first time since missing the cut at the US Open, closed out a frustrating week with a final round two-over 74.
