– The lockdown that has been in place in Melbourne since early July is about to be lifted. The Australian state of Victoria says it has seen no new cases of the deadly Middle East virus in the past 24 hours, the first time that’s happened in four months, reports Reuters. “Now is the time to open up,” says the state’s premier, Daniel Andrews. “We’ve have been able to bring this under control, a day of zero cases is an amazing achievement.” Restaurants, cafes, bars, and hotels will be allowed to reopen, but the number of people allowed inside will be capped at 40 and 70, respectively. People will also be allowed to travel from Melbourne to the state’s rural areas in two weeks, notes the Age.
