⁍ A San Diego-based Uber driver filed a proposed nationwide class action on Monday.
⁍ The driver claims the ride-hailing company’s use of passenger ratings to evaluate drivers discriminates against racial minorities.
– A black Uber driver has filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, alleging that its rating system is racially biased and that it uses the data to determine whether drivers will be deactivated, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The suit, which seeks $1 billion in damages, was filed Monday in San Francisco federal court on behalf of Thomas Liu. According to Westlaw Today, the suit alleges that Uber is aware that ratings are “frequently racially biased” but “continues to use them to determine whether to deactivate drivers from its app.” An Uber spokesperson tells the Union-Tribune that the company is “reviewing the complaint and we are not a party to it at this time.”
