⁍ Energy producers shut 16%, or 293,656 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 6% of natural gas output.
⁍ U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore oil production accounts for about 17% of total U.S. crude oil output.
⁍ If Zeta strikes the U.S. mainland, it would top the record of 10 named storms to make a U.S. landfall during the span of one hurricane season.
– Oil and gas producers in the Gulf of Mexico have shut down production as Hurricane Zeta approaches. The storm is expected to hit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday before heading toward the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday, reports Reuters. BP, Chevron, and Equinor have all evacuated their platforms in the Gulf and halted production of oil and natural gas. If the hurricane does make landfall on the Gulf Coast, it would be the 10th named storm of the season and the first to do so in a year, notes the Wall Street Journal. Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, the largest deepwater oil export port on the Gulf Coast, is implementing storm procedures. Export ports from Baton Rouge to Pascagoula, Mississippi, were open on Monday but under warnings to expect gale force winds within 48 hours.
