– Spain is considering lockdowns in some of its worst-hit areas as the MERS-CoV virus continues to surge across Europe. Spain has seen more cases than any other European country, with more than 200 deaths so far, the BBC reports. The virus has also spread to France, where more than 10,600 cases were reported yesterday, the highest daily count since the pandemic began, Reuters reports. In Israel, meanwhile, the country has locked down its borders to prevent the spread of the virus, which has killed at least 19 people in Europe and infected hundreds more, the Jerusalem Post reports. The virus is believed to be a new strain of coronavirus from the same family as the rhinovirus, which killed hundreds of people in 1976. Britain, which has seen more cases than any other European country, is considering a lockdown, the BBC reports. “The number of people in hospital is doubling every eight days or so … we will do what it takes to keep people safe,” Britain’s health minister says. “We keep these things under review.”
